
All of the places listed here are within 2 hours of Mt. Pleasant! This
is not a complete list, I decided to start with the places I have visited.
I will continue to make additions to this list until every attraction in

Downtown Mt. Pleasant Plans are underway to define and preserve a major portion of Mt. Pleasant as an 'Historic District'. The district will include approximately 250 buildings. The local chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is acting to preserve this district through National Register listing.
L.E. Smith Glass This company has been producing fine glassware for 90 years! You can tour the factory, purchase first quality, and discount priced 'seconds'.
Highlander Tourist Train In 1996 the Laurel Highlands R.R. Company began running its steam powered train between Youngwood and Scottdale with a stop in Mt. Pleasant. The train runs on the weekends and travels along the Southwest Branch of the Pennsylvania Railroad.
West Overton Museums This is a 19th century rural industrial village. Located "next door" to Mt. Pleasant in Scottdale,PA. Here you can tour the Abraham Overholt Homestead and see many local artifacts in the Distillery building.
Idlewild Park Located about 35 miles from Mt. Pleasant, in historic Ligonier, PA, is the oldest continuously operated family park in the country. This is the perfect amusement park for small children and not-real-brave adults! Ride the train through Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood of Make-Believe, swim, slide, or row in the H2Ohhh Zone, and enjoy the rides for all ages! People of all ages will love Story Book Forest. Meet your favorite storybook characters. Even the Three Billy Goats Gruff live here!!
Fort Ligonier Historic outpost of the French and Indian War. You can tour the buildings and see tons of historic artifacts. Re-enactments and living history activities are also offered here.
Old Hanna's Town Approximately 20 miles from Mt. Pleasant, this is the site of the first courthouse in Westmoreland County. This reconstructured 18th century town includes a courthouse, tavern,and fort. Costumed guides to show you around!
Laurel Caverns Located east of Uniontown on Route 40, approximately 45(?) miles from Mt. Pleasant. This is Pennsylvania's largest cave. Tours are available or you can be brave and explore the caves yourself. It's cold and damp year-round so dress accordingly!
Searight's Tollhouse I've been past this tollhouse many times but I'm not sure when or if it's open for tours. Located west of Uniontown, it's one of only two remaining original tollhouses on the National Pike! It was built in 1835 to collect tolls from those traveling on the first national highway.
Fort Necessity Battlefield About an hours drive from Mt. Pleasant, located on Route 40 west of Farmington. Built by General George Washington in July 1754.
This list doesn't even scratch the surface of all the local attractions! It should, however, whet your appetite enough to come back and see what other attractions are added in the future!
