If you grew up in Mt. Pleasant, you must have a "Candyland memory".
If you'd like to share with the rest of the world, send
them in and I'll post them!
Maureen (Murphy) Tyree
Candyland means Chocolate Cokes. Even though I have been away from the
area almost 20 years, every time I come home to visit, I still take the
walk uptown to get the infamous Chocolate Coke and it still tastes as good
now as it did growing up.
Hello! My name is Rachael (Kreinbrook)Finn and I was a student nurse at
Frick Hospital from 1936 through 1938. Some evenings after 8 p.m., if we
had a nickel, we would go to The Candyland and have a coke. It was the
depression and we didn't have a nickel very often. I was born in Fayette
County, on "Kreinbrook Hill." Hello to all my friends in Mt. Pleasant!
Kate Connally writes:
I only lived in Mt. Pleasant for one year, my 10th grade year of high
school.
That was back in 1962/63 and we were still going to Ramsey. I fondly
remember going to Samer's Candyland after school every day and
having an orangeade and Wise's BBQ potato chips. I usually hung
out with Tommy, Nat, and Larry. Sometimes with Freddy. Whenever
I am visiting Mt. Pleasant nowadays I always stop into Candyland for
an orangeade. Amazingly they taste exactly the way I remember them
from 35 years ago.
