surname1 = Bonnar
surname2 = Paterson
John Bonnar b. 12 Aug 1868 Larimer Sta.m. Ellen Paterson in Denver. After the death of Ellen's mother in 1891, the young couple returned to Mt. Pleasant where their 3 children were born during the 1890's - Charlotte, Beatrice and Willie. Willie died in 1896. The couple stayed in Mt. Pleasant until about 1903 when they moved to WA. There is a family story that John was a locomotive engineer (probably in a coal plant). During the cold winters, local blacks would huddle in the middle of the tracks trying to absorb warmth from the tailings that fell between the tracks. On one occasion on a very dark winter evening, John inadvertently ran over one such. He was so horrified at what he felt he had done, that he stepped down from the locomotive and never "drove" one again. I understand that the Mt. Pleasant newspaper has been sold to a Scotsdale paper and would love to see a newspaper account of the accident or know whether that Scotsdale newspaper has ever been microfilmed.
